Mobility Wet Room | Leeds | More Ability

Published: 12 March 2026

Background

The daughter of our client first discovered More Ability online and booked a free home design consultation through our website, seeking advice on how to make her mum’s bathroom safer and easier to use on a daily basis.

The existing bathroom featured a traditional bath with an overhead shower, which had become increasingly difficult for mum to access safely. Stepping in and out of the bath was no longer practical, creating concern for both her and the family. Their goal was to create a bathroom that offered improved accessibility, enhanced safety, and complete peace of mind for everyone involved.

The layout of the room also presented challenges. The bath was positioned under the window while the WC and basin were directly opposite one another, creating a narrow walkway through the centre of the room. This made the space feel restrictive and difficult to navigate.

Initially looking for guidance on what could be achieved, the family welcomed senior bathroom designer Nigel to the property. Nigel carefully assessed the existing space, listened to mum’s needs, and began developing a design concept that would improve accessibility while maintaining an attractive and modern appearance.

Mobility Wet Room Design

To address both the layout constraints and accessibility requirements, Nigel proposed transforming the bathroom into a stylish mobility wet room.

The new design completely reconfigured the space to create a more open and practical layout. The shower area was relocated to the right-hand side of the room, while bespoke boxwork was introduced beneath the window to house the WC and basin. This repositioning removed the previous bottleneck in the centre of the room, opening up the floor space and making the room feel significantly larger and easier to move around in.

The wet room itself was fully tiled using large-format grey wall tiles, creating a sleek and contemporary finish. These were complemented by dark grey anti-slip vinyl flooring, chosen to provide excellent grip and confidence underfoot while enhancing the overall aesthetic.

A bespoke built-in bench seat was incorporated within the shower area, offering comfortable and secure seating during use. A thermostatically controlled shower mixer with slide rail was installed, ensuring safe and easy temperature control, while a large glass screen helps to contain water within the wet area without making the space feel enclosed.

The bespoke boxwork allowed for a back-to-wall WC with concealed cistern and chrome flush plate to be installed at a comfortable height, alongside a matching anthracite wall-hung vanity basin unit and heated towel rail. Concealing the pipework created a seamless, maintenance-friendly finish while maintaining the clean and modern design.

To further enhance safety, a series of wavy bar chrome grab rails were strategically installed near the WC and within the shower area, providing additional stability and support without introducing a clinical appearance.

The result was a clean, minimal, and aesthetically pleasing mobility wet room designed to meet mum’s needs both now and in the future.

The Design Process

Following the initial home consultation, Nigel invited the family to visit our Leeds showroom. Here, they were able to view detailed 3D CAD visuals of the proposed layout, helping them clearly visualise how the finished wet room would look and function.

During the visit, Nigel also provided a fully itemised quotation and guided the family through selecting the finishing touches, ensuring every element complemented the overall design while delivering the safety and accessibility required.

Mobility Wet Room Installation

Once the design was finalised, installation surveyor Joe carried out a detailed technical survey to confirm all measurements and specifications before work began.

Multi-skilled fitter Mark then completed the installation, carefully transforming the bathroom into the new mobility wet room while ensuring minimal disruption to the home. The project was managed from start to finish by the More Ability team, ensuring everything ran smoothly and to the highest standard.

The Finished Project

The completed wet room delivered exactly what the family had hoped for — a spacious, modern, and fully accessible bathroom that feels safe, comfortable, and stylish.

By reconfiguring the layout, introducing anti-slip flooring, and incorporating practical support features, the room now provides mum with a much safer environment for everyday use while maintaining a warm and contemporary feel.

Most importantly, the project has given both mum and her family the reassurance and peace of mind that the bathroom is designed to support independence now and into the future.

Customer Trustpilot Review

Following completion of the project, the family shared their experience with a 5-star Trustpilot review, highlighting the professionalism, care and attention provided throughout the entire process.
